Switching it up! - Progressions for spinning and static switches
It’s time to turn all those strength drills into skills! This workshop is a little tool bag of drills and progressions towards safely switching to and from all of our basic positions including nutcracker, meathook, flag, etc. on aerial straps.
We’ll talk about the difference between static, spinning, and swinging in addition to high and low switches. We will build strength and mental coordination for taking your straps skills to the next level!
Prerequisites:
-
2-3 pull-ups with good form or 5 with a light spot.

Ability to invert with control (i.e. no momentum or jumping) and without needing to use feet on the straps for assistance.

Comfort or working towards comfort in meathook
-
1-2 skin-the-cats from inverted pike with good form or 3 with light spotting.

Decent shoulder (over the head) mobility without pain or injury
-
Hold a straight arm 20-second hanging pike hold at 90 degrees

Intro to Swinging Skills on Straps
This workshop will break down one and two arm swinging pathways into accessible progressions. These drills will aid us as we work towards safely mastering swinging in and out of basic positions, and furthermore, working towards skills like dislocs and inlocs.
Students will leave with drills and tools to confidently train on their own with a good understanding of how to safely progress their swinging skills on straps.

About Sadie
Sadie LeDonna has performed as an aerialist, clown, and acrobat around the Pacific Northwest since age 15, debuting on the aerial hoop in a New Old Time Chautauqua show. She has created independent shows and toured with the New Old Time Chautauqua and other notable companies. In 2020, Sadie took a deep dive into aerial straps. With a growing conviction to gain skills in the discipline, it quickly escalated to her main focus. She now has an expansive knowledge base in the discipline and is excited to share all that she has learned over the years. She has received training in aerial arts, acrobatics, dance, and clowning in San Francisco CA, Seattle WA, Brattleboro VT, and Quebec City. She also studied social circus with Cirque Du Soleil's social circus training company, “Cirque du Monde.” She aims to share the joy of movement and physical well-being with as many people as possible. In addition, Sadie owns a circus school, Pop-Up Movement, in Port Hadlock WA. It has been an open and vibrant community movement hub for 4 years.
